FromSoftware's The Duskbloods won't make its previously announced 2026 release window. The Elden Ring and Bloodborne developer announced Thursday that its Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive will now be released sometime in 2027. FromSoftware said in a statement that it's working to adjust the game's "rules and balance" following a player test this summer.
Previously, the game was slated for release sometime in 2026, but as the end of the year approached, fans started to suspect The Duskbloods wouldn't squeeze into the remaining weeks of the year, which is sure to be dominated by Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto 6, launching in November. Here's FromSoftware's full official statement: During the network test in August 2026, we saw active interest in the core concepts of the game, including direct combat, strategic depth, and player expression. To further enhance these aspects of the game and improve the player experience, we have made the decision to move the release window, allowing time for final adjustments to game rules and balancing.
We offer our sincere apologies to players who have been kindly awaiting the release of this title. Your understanding and patience are greatly appreciated. The studio posted a slightly different message directly to its followers on X: Regarding the software "The Duskbloods" for the Nintendo Switch 2, we have decided to allocate a period for final adjustments to the game rules and balance.
This is in order to realize the concept of this title—enjoyable not only through direct combat but also through various maneuvers and diverse strategies—at an even higher level, based on the evaluations received from all users during the network test held in August, and to deliver an even better gaming experience. As a result, we will be changing the release date to 2027. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this will cause to those of you who have been eagerly awaiting the game, and we kindly ask for your understanding.
The Duskbloods is a new type of multiplayer experience for FromSoftware, with an emphasis on PvPvE mechanics. The game gives players control of characters called Bloodsworn, who fight monsters and other Bloodsworn players in online multiplayer matches in a battle for survival. Unlike Dark Souls and Elden Ring, The Duskbloods focuses less on players charging forward against challenging odds, dying repeatedly, and charging forward again.
It is instead a match-based multiplayer game in which eight players fight to earn victory points called Virtue, with multiple possible pathways to victory. The Duskbloods will be FromSoftware's first new game since last year's Elden Ring Nightreign. Game director Hidetaka Miyazaki says he hopes The Duskbloods' game design leads to "unexpected drama." The studio recently held a limited network test for the game, offering FromSoftware fans a peek at the game's characters and mechanics.
