THE SURVIVALIST BEAR GRYLLS has conquered Everest, the Amazon, and cable television. This year he dropped the first season of Chosen in the Wild and the ninth season of Running Wild, with more shows like Adventure Garage to come. Here’s the gear that helps him thrive.
"I am a big fan of shoes that are zero drop and have a wide toe box," says Grylls. "I want my feet to be landing on the ground as naturally as possible." The rubber outsole is extra-grippy, a must in treacherous terrain. It’s the one piece of gym equipment Grylls requests wherever he films so he and his production crew can get their workouts in.
This straightforward rack powers squats, presses, and pullups. Afterward, Grylls donates the equipment. "We’ve left squat racks with barbells all over the world," he says.
Yeah, the shoe brand makes a featherweight, durable backpack. Side pockets stash water bottles, a cavernous main compartment holds tons of supplies, and there’s a laptop sleeve too. Grylls launched this supplement with the goal of well-rounded nutrition.
It’s a blend of powderized protein, fiber, probiotics, and (in very Bear fashion) grass-fed organ meats. This watch is light on the wrist, corrosion-resistant, and super readable. Luminox’s support of multiple military charities sold Grylls, a former British special forces soldier, on the partnership.
Grylls’s jackets take so much punishment, he sometimes replaces them mid-expedition. This tough shell comes lined with microfleece. Plus, seven pockets help stash gear.
