This Is Not a Drill: Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan Are Finally Collaborating on the “Expectations” Remix

Already making this my entire personality.

Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan are officially collaborating, at long last! The Grammy winners announced their upcoming joint slay for Olivia’s fan-favorite track, “expectations,” which hits streaming platforms on Thursday, October 15. This also marks the first-ever remix and second collaboration in Olivia’s career.

It’s truly iconic all around! Their official announcement comes right after Olivia teased a potential collab on her Instagram Stories. On October 11, she posted a clip showing the screen of music production software, where you can also hear Chappell say, “Ooh, Olivia does remixes now!” The girlies go way back, from doughnut shop visits to joining forces at the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields music festival earlier this year.

They’ve also both worked with producer Dan Nigro throughout their respective careers, which has led to secret past collabs. Chappell previously provided backing vocals on some of Olivia’s songs like “Can’t Catch Me Now,” “lacy,” “obsessed,” and “bad idea right?” before hopping on the “expectations” remix. Liv has opened up about their longtime friendship many times, telling Jimmy Fallon in 2025, “She’s been there for so much of my journey, and I’ve been sort of there for her as we’ve known each other for a long time.

She opened for my SOUR tour, too, actually, and she does background vocals on both of my albums. So we’re very intertwined in each other’s worlds.” She added, “I love her. I used to go visit her when she worked at a donut shop, before she got signed, before she put out any of her music.

I used to just go eat donuts with her and hang out.” Their latest link-up on “expectations” is not only Chappell’s first collab, but Olivia’s second-ever collab after hopping on “what’s wrong with me” with The Cure’s Robert Smith. It’s also the first new music drop we’re getting from the Midwest Princess since she released “The Subway” in July 2025, too. All this to say: I’m seated for this major pop music moment.

Spotify is scared and asking me to leave because it’s “not October 15 yet,” but I’m simply too seated!
