NYPD shot a knife-wielding woman in Times Square after officials said she attacked at least two people Monday afternoon.

A woman was shot by New York City police in Times Square on Monday afternoon after allegedly attacking multiple people while armed with knives, law enforcement officials told local media outlets. Authorities said the incident unfolded near West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue, where officers responded to reports of a person with a knife. Officials said the woman had allegedly slashed at least two people before police opened fire.

Witnesses told local media the suspect was carrying two knives and ignored officers' commands to drop them. New York City councilman Carl Wilson wrote on X, "I’ve been made aware of a disturbing incident in Times Square this afternoon where a suspect wielding knives was shot by police at 42nd and 7th. NYPD is still investigating. 42nd to 43rd on 7th Ave is closed to foot traffic while the investigation continues, and there are no more outstanding perpetrators.

Details will be shared as soon as they are available." Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal shared a similar message on his X page. The conditions of the suspect and victims were not immediately known. Police said there was no indication the incident was terrorism-related.
