Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka suffered a sprained toe during practice last Wednesday and hasn't returned to the field since. On Monday, Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles was asked for an update on Egbuka's injury status. Bowles said Egbuka is "day-to-day, week-to-week." When asked if the star pass catcher will be ready for Week 1, Bowles gave a somewhat concerning response.

"Not sure at this time," Bowles said, via team insider Greg Auman of Fox Sports. This response from Bowles comes just a few days after a report indicated that the Buccaneers are "very optimistic" Egbuka will be ready for the opening game of the regular season on Sept. 13. Egbuka was solid in his rookie season with the Buccaneers in 2025, reeling in 63 catches for 938 yards and six touchdowns.

He's set for an even more prominent role this coming season following the departure of veteran pass catcher Mike Evans this past offseason. The Buccaneers will open up their regular-season schedule with a Week 1 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 13.
