9pm, ITV1This glossy legal drama, a hit in the US last year, is based on John Grisham’s novel. Set in Charleston, it follows ambitious young couple Rudy (Milo Callaghan) and Sarah (Madison Iseman) who are associates at the esteemed Tinley Britt. But Leo is fired after a run-in with John Slattery’s smarmy boss Leo – and he takes a job at a slightly less, let’s say, refined firm.
Cue a battle of the lawyers. Hollie Richardson 7pm, BBC FourA Proms debut as New York’s Met Orchestra take their place on the Royal Albert Hall stage for the first time, under the baton of music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin. They’ll be playing a programme of music by Richard Strauss – highlights include the final scene of Salome sung by soprano Elza van den Heever.
Phil Harrison 8pm, BBC TwoBurn after weeding: the scorching summer has been a punishing one for many gardens, but Monty Don is on hand with advice on how to help water-starved plants and lawns recover. Other horticultural highlights include an update on Rekha Mistry’s attempts to harvest fruit and veg from pots on her compact patio. Graeme Virtue The screwball arguments make this show much funnier than the average cosy-crime comedy drama.
Episode two sees novelist Allie (Brooke Shields) and podcaster Andi (Amalia Williamson), established as a reluctant writing/crime-solving partnership, looking into a death at a wedding while bickering magnificently. Jack Seale 10.40pm, BBC OneGrian Chatten’s Dublin post-punkers seemed unlikely headlining material when they emerged almost a decade ago. But they’ve developed the visual side of their shows, written some anthemic bangers and gathered an unusually devoted legion of fans.
This set kicks off a weekend of coverage of the pre-A-levels musical extravaganza. PH Midnight, Sky OneIn this season finale, Marvin is suffering from a serious case of PTSD and keeps seeing murder everywhere, but the real mystery is who stole his Friday treat danish? With gags about Tom Petty and gluten intolerance, this snappy, Jon Hamm-voiced parody of unreconstructed alpha cops has been a hoot.
