He starts this new series about incredible but endangered birds in Kenya, where the martial eagle – huge yellow eyes, terrifying talons, thighs of steel – blows him away. Then, he makes a case for why we should love vultures more, and somehow pulls it off.
Hollie Richardson 8pm, BBC FourCurated by Guardian columnist Tom Service, here is an exciting collection of new music at this year’s Proms to make note of. As well as three world premieres, expect a captivating bassoon concerto, and chats with the big names of tomorrow, plus composers Thomas Adès and Gabriela Ortiz. HR DCI Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) is off the hook for now, as this twisty cop drama returns.
She’s now shacked up with DI Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) and, to everyone’s slight surprise, it’s Longacre who has been selected to investigate a diplomatically sensitive murder in the Arctic. However, as events spiral, Silva might be forced to abandon her supervisory role and get involved. Phil Harrison 9pm, ITV1The magnificent Vicky McClure returns as flinty explosives officer Lana “Wash” Washington for a fourth series of this slick bomb disposal thriller.
Judging by Wash’s fraught therapy sessions, her high-stress job is taking its toll. But when a C4-laden truck starts rolling toward central London, she dives into peril without hesitation. Graeme Virtue The horror of this drama lies in the knowledge that, while the dysfunction of the mental institution is real, so is the distress and confusion of the inmates.
The paranoia experienced by Pepper and Coffee is manifesting in ever more outlandish theories – another excuse for the fiendish Dr Walter to intervene again. PH 10.15pm, Channel 4The fallout from Australian EDM DJ Olivia Nervo’s relationship with businessman Matthew Pringle travelled as far as the Houses of Parliament as it was seen as a possible example of reproductive coercion. The second series of this documentary about romantic fraud and manipulation explores the case in all of its grimness.
