The Minnesota Vikings were able to stay undefeated by defeating the Indianapolis Colts 16-10 in Week 7. However, it seems to have come at the cost of one of the team's veteran running backs. According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell revealed after the game that running back Aaron Jones aggravated the injury that he suffered a couple of weeks ago.
It's certainly not the news Vikings fans were hoping to hear as Jones has began his 2026 campaign quite well, rushing for 410 yards and two touchdowns while also reeling in 12 catches for another 72 yards. Jones carried the ball eight times for 26 yards and recorded a catch for no gain on Sunday before exiting the game with his injury. Luckily, Week 7 was fellow running back Jordan Mason's return to action after he had missed the past five weeks with a fractured thumb.
In Jones' absence, Mason ran for 68 yards on 15 touches, averaging an impressive 4.5 yards per carry. That is exactly the type of production the Vikings are going to need from Mason if Jones has to miss more time. An undrafted free agent out of the 2022 NFL Draft, Mason has rushed for 2,070 yards and 14 touchdowns in his professional career.
