Vikings Veteran RB Trending in Wrong Direction for Week 8

The Minnesota Vikings could be without one of their veteran running backs this week.

The Minnesota Vikings are the NFL's last remaining undefeated team, but they could be a bit shorthanded on offense when they take on the Detroit Lions in Week 8. According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Vikings veteran running back Aaron Jones did not practice on Wednesday after reaggravating a knee injury in the second half of Minnesota’s Week 7 win over the Indianapolis Colts. It's certainly not the news Vikings fans were hoping to hear as Jones has began his 2026 campaign quite well, rushing for 410 yards and two touchdowns while also reeling in 12 catches for another 72 yards.

Jones carried the ball eight times for 26 yards and recorded a catch for no gain on Sunday before exiting the game with his injury. However, it does seem as though he avoided a serious injury, and Week 7 also marked the return of fellow running back Jordan Mason after he had missed the previous five weeks with a fractured thumb. In Jones' absence, Mason ran for 68 yards on 15 touches, averaging an impressive 4.5 yards per carry.

That is exactly the type of production the Vikings are going to need from Mason if Jones has to miss time and they want to stay undefeated. An undrafted free agent out of the 2022 NFL Draft, Mason has rushed for 2,070 yards and 14 touchdowns in his professional career.
