Wake Up! Everyone Wants to Smell Like Coffee Right Now

Here’s a new way to get that morning jolt we all need....

We may earn commission from links on this page, but we only recommend products we love. Consider this your wake-up call: Coffee fragrances and body products are everywhere this fall. With Pinterest calling out coffee perfume as a trend that’s up 51 percent in search interest over this year, it turns out we want to smell like our morning jolt just as much as we need to sip it.

I’m not exactly a morning person, but the idea of an iced latte waiting for me upon getting out of bed is pretty enticing. And while I love coffee for its ability to make us functioning members of society before 9 a.m., I’d argue that the smell is almost as good as the first sip...almost. Clearly, the beauty industry agrees, thanks not only to the Pinterest data but also to an ever-growing number of coffee-scented perfumes and body care products, especially some new launches this fall (I’ve seen at least four just in the past couple of months!).

Coffee-inspired beauty moments (ahem, coconut latte nails) are giving us a whole new way to get our daily caffeine fix, with scents that range from rich, freshly brewed espresso to creamy, sweet lattes for a cozy, sweet, gourmand feel. Check out some of our favorite coffee-spiked fragrances, scented scrubs, and more that make your shower smell like your favorite café without requiring you to actually drink another cup (though we’re not against it!). Coffee is one of those smells that can instantly transport you somewhere: your favorite neighborhood cafe, a quiet Sunday, a morning in the kitchen while brewing a fresh pot, or sometimes, just the rush out the door on the way to work.

In fragrance, that familiarity makes it an especially comforting note. It smells “warm and grounding,” says Kussman. But the note “can really go in a lot of directions,” she adds.

Combine it with woods, amber, or spice, and it becomes darker, richer, and sophisticated. Coffee-inspired scents don’t stop at perfume. Body washes, scrubs, lotions, and creams let you incorporate the scent into practically every step of your routine to give you that jolt wherever, whenever.

And while some coffee-based products also contain actual coffee extracts or caffeine, it’s worth noting that those skincare ingredients differ from fragrance notes, which simply recreate the smell. Coffee scents work really well on their own, but they also play well with others, which is good news if you’re using the scent in your body care routine and have other fragranced products you wanna use, too. Consider using complementary scents like vanilla, almond, or creamy notes that make you smell like your favorite sweet latte.
