Concerns had been raised previously about a Coast Guard plane that was forced to make an emergency landing while carrying Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin on Wednesday. The C-37A aircraft, which is the military version of a Gulfstream V, suffered the loss of an engine before landing at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The pilot said that 14 people were on board the plane, but no injuries were reported.
Mullin confirmed the emergency landing in a post on X, writing that the pilots made the single engine landing "feel routine," adding that there was "no panic, just straight professionalism." CBS reported that the department had raised concerns about the aircraft. Last year, DHS said in a statement that the Coast Guard plane was "22 years old and faces significant avionics and communications obsolescence issues."
