No one had the Arizona Cardinals upsetting the Los Angeles Chargers 26-14 on the road, and almost no one had the preseason Super Bowl favorite Los Angeles Rams getting smoked in Australia by the San Francisco 49ers, 27-7.
To kick off Week 2, the Buffalo Bills thumped the Detroit Lions 41-31 in a game in which they led 21-0. Not a bad way to open their new home at Highmark Stadium. The football world knew the Detroit Lions defense could be rough to start 2026 with injuries to both safety Brian Branch and safety Kerby Joseph, but no one really knew how rough it could be.
The 2026 Lions are the second squad in team history to allow 70-plus points and 900-plus total yards in their first two games, along with their 2008 team that went 0-16. A truly unimaginable start to a new year. So what other crazy happenings could go down in Week 2?
Let's take a look with five bold predictions. The Los Angeles Rams are a perfect 4-0 against the New York Giants and average 33.0 points per game against them under head coach Sean McVay. That record will drop to 4-1 after John Harbaugh's Giants go into SoFi Stadium and leave with a "Monday Night Football" road win.
How shocking would that be? Another loss for the Rams would make them the fifth preseason Super Bowl favorite to start 0-2 in the last 50 seasons, joining the 1987 Giants, the 1993 Dallas Cowboys, the 2002 St. Louis Rams and the 2015 Seattle Seahawks.
New York kept Dallas' potent offense — powered by Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens — in check in a 28-20 Week 1 home win by keeping them off the field. New York converted nine of its 11 third downs, and it won the time-of-possession battle by nearly an entire quarter: 36:40 to 23:20. Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart also balled out with 284 total yards, three passing touchdowns and a career-high 134.2 passer rating in the victory.
