What Is the SuperHalfs Series? Inside the Popular Half Marathon Challenge

All the information you need, including race dates, registration and course details, and how to prepare for racing abroad.

According to the 2026 Running USA Global Runner Survey or more than 11,000 runners, the half marathon is the most popular race distance. Not only that, but almost half of those runners would be happy to travel more than 500 miles for a good half marathon (and marathon). This might be why the SuperHalfs, a European series of six races through Lisbon, Cardiff, Prague, Berlin, Valencia, and Copenhagen, have become so popular.

These races are not neighborhood events, but international spectacles, and they are difficult to get into. A few of the courses, including Copenhagen (2014), Cardiff (2016), and Valencia (2018), have even hosted the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships. Dubbed “a super series for the ordinary runner,” according to Mark Janik, CEO North America of Sports Tours International, the SuperHalfs are perfect for runners who want to combine racing with travel.

While the early 2027 races are sold out, you can start planning for the autumn 2027 and 2028 races. No rush, though, as you have a lifetime to complete all six races and, once you do, you’ll earn more bling—a seventh medal. If you’re ready to set some international race goals, we have the training plans you need to get to the start lines of these extraordinary competitions.

Date: March 7, 2027 (Sunday)Location: Almada, PortugalNumber of Runners: 35,000Time Limit: 3 hours A favorite course of many elite runners, racers enjoy views along the River Tagus and journey over the 25 de Abril Bridge, once the longest suspension bridge in Europe and a twin of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. This race is the only time when pedestrians can cross, says Sadie Lowell, JetSetting_Runner, who has helped runners plan their international runcations. Although Lisbon is a hilly city, the course is flat, and typically serves up nice weather, as Portugal’s capital city boasts about 300 days of sunshine most years.

It is also famous for record-setting runs including in 20216 Jacob Kiplimo from Uganda broke the world record—again—during this race with a time of 57:20. The lottery for this race typically opens in June. Follow the race on Instagram for updates!

Date: April 3, 2027 (Saturday)Location: Prague, Czech RepublicNumber of Runners: 17,000Time Limit: 3 hoursREGISTER Organizers of the Prague Half Marathon, with a theme of “all runners are beautiful,” may have been inspired to create that phrase because the race course itself is considered so lovely. The sights include castles, rivers, bridges, and historic parts of Prague. For the 13.1-mile course, runners will complete a few loops and turnarounds, with the race starting at Bubenské Nábřeží, Holešovice and ending at Jan Palach Square in the Old Town of Prague.
