We’re off and running in another three matches.
Birmingham host Tottenham, Brighton take on Crystal Palace at the Broadfield Stadium, and West Ham face Liverpool. Alessia Russo's late header salvaged a 1-1 draw for Arsenal at home against Aston Villa. The Gunners dominated the fixture with 27 shots in total at the Emirates after Chasity Grant fired Villa into a shock first-half lead with their only shot of the afternoon.
Villa defended valiantly, supported by eight saves from Akane Okuma, before Russo latched onto Stina Blackstenius' cross to head home the equaliser in the 85th minute. London City will wonder how they’ve come away empty-handed after creating plenty of chances against City, who go top of the WSL. Earps’ brilliant double save kept the visitors out before the break, but Shaw rounded her to open the scoring with her ninth goal of the season.
Fernandes headed the hosts level from a set-piece, only for Hemp to restore City’s lead just 122 seconds later, finishing from Fowler’s lovely delivery. Shaw also hit the post, but two goals proved enough. A frustrating afternoon for London City, a valuable three points for City.
De Almeida's shot is blocked by Harviken as Villa try and hold on at the Emirates! The ball falls to Stanway in the box but she sends her effort wide of the target while shooting off balance. London City have 4 more minutes to rescue a point at Hayes Lane. 86: Two more changes for London City as Godfrey and Pattinson replace Van de Donk and Corrales.
