The Kansas City Chiefs fell apart late last season after Patrick Mahomes suffered the first serious injury of his NFL career, tearing his ACL and LCL in Week 15 against the Chargers. The Chiefs lost that game and dropped the next three, closing the season on a six-game losing streak and finishing 6-11 — the franchise's lowest win total of the Mahomes era. But Mahomes is now healthy and has participated fully in training camp.
Though he didn't play in any preseason games, all signs point to him suiting up for Week 1. He missed three games last season with a shoulder injury and sat out early in training camp this summer after reinjuring that same shoulder, which he'd surgically repaired in January.
He's since returned to practice, though, giving Mahomes a healthy and explosive trio at receiver in Worthy, Rashee Rice, and Tyquan Thornton. Worthy, Rice, and Thornton all bring breakaway speed that can stretch defenses and give Mahomes plenty of options across the field, with Travis Kelce holding down the middle of the field and newly acquired Kenneth Walker — last season's Super Bowl MVP with Seattle — providing a steady presence in the ground game. Coaches, teammates, and insiders alike have raved about Mahomes all summer, saying he hasn't lost a step and looks like the same player who's already delivered three Super Bowls for the franchise.
