The New York Yankees advanced to the ALDS after defeating the Boston Red Sox by a 9-2 final score in Game 2 of the AL Wild Card series. The Yankees simply had the Red Sox's number in this series, as they completely dominated them. Due to this, New York has now made some MLB history in the process.
According to OptaSTATs, the Yankees are the first team in MLB history to score at least 90% of the runs in a playoff series with a minimum of 20 total runs scored. This is an incredible stat, and it shows just how dominant the Yankees were against the Red Sox. The Yankees outscored the Red Sox 18-2 in their two-game series, so they were excellent with both their hitting and pitching.
Now, the Yankees will be aiming to keep this kind of play up when they face the Tampa Bay Rays in the NLDS. If the Yankees can translate the strong all-around play that they had against Boston, it would certainly help their odds of knocking out the Rays. It will be interesting to see what the Yankees can do against Tampa Bay after their historic series against the Red Sox from here.
