According to the YES Network's Jack Curry, the Yankees will be recalling infielder Anthony Volpe from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre once Chisholm officially hits the injured list. Curry also reported that Volpe will be joining the Yankees on Thursday for their series finale against the Colorado Rockies.
Volpe being called up to the Yankees' roster is undoubtedly notable. The 25-year-old infielder was demoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre back in August due to his struggles with New York. Yet, with this news, he is now getting another chance on the Yankees' roster and will be looking to take advantage of it.
Volpe has appeared in 56 games this season with New York, where he has recorded one home run, 19 RBI, and a .240 batting average. This is after he posted 19 home runs and 72 RBI in 153 games for the Yankees during last season. While Volpe has his critics, it is fair to say that he has earned another chance to show the Yankees what he can do.
Since being demoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he has been hitting well. In 37 games with the Triple-A club, he has posted 11 home runs, 26 RBI, and a .264 batting average. Now, he will be aiming to translate this kind of hitting to the MLB level after getting this call-up to New York.
