Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake File Size Officially Confirmed

Nintendo Switch 2 players will need to clear a lot of space on their systems to accommodate The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake's file size

When the original Nintendo 64 version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was released in 1998, the entire game fit on a 32 MB cartridge. The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 remake does not; in fact, the updated version of the classic game is over 800 times larger. That's according to the recently revealed file size for the remake, so you should start clearing some storage space.

We now know that the Ocarina of Time remake on Nintendo Switch 2 will take up 27 GB of storage. That's according to a photo of the game's download card in Japan, posted on X by Genki_JPN. That doesn't make the remake a big game by modern standards.

The likes of Call of Duty can easily take up over 200 GB alone on consoles. It is, however, the biggest mainline Zelda game to date. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the most recent mainline entry in the series, takes up 24 GB on Switch 2.

The only game that exceeds the size of the Ocarina of Time remake is currently Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, the 2025 Musou spinoff, which takes up just over 43 GB. As the remake introduces a complex (if controversial) art style and expands the game world, it makes sense that it would come with a bigger file size, though I still think it's a bit shocking that it outdoes the scale of Tears of the Kingdom Players are finally close to getting their hands on the Ocarina of Time remake. It will be released exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on Nov. 5, as Nintendo is one of the only companies willing to get anywhere near Grand Theft Auto 6.

In addition to the updated graphics, the game brings a number of new features, like jumping whenever you want. Polygon went hands on with the game earlier this month and came away impressed with how timeless the new version of the iconic game feels. We wrote, "Nintendo seems to have pulled it off.

The remake is both incredibly impressive graphically and the game now plays better than ever. The remake evokes nostalgia for Link’s first 3D adventure while also feeling thoroughly modern."
