San Franisco 49ers general manager John Lynch said on Tuesday that the team is sticking with the struggling 31-year-old.

One NFC West team already cut ties with their kicker this season, when the Los Angeles Rams released Harrison Mevis on Oct. 13. The San Francisco 49ers have had their own kicking struggles this fall with Eddy Pineiro, but Niners general manager John Lynch said on Tuesday that the team is sticking with the 31-year-old. San Francisco dropped its first game of the 2026 campaign in Week 7, leaving the Minnesota Vikings as the only undefeated team left in the NFL.

Pineiro and the Niners are on a bye in Week 8. Pineiro didn't attempt any field goals during Sunday's loss to the Atlanta Falcons, but missed an extra point try for the second week in a row. Pineiro's misfired on four of his 25 extra point attempts this season, matching last year's career high in just seven contests.

The Miami native is also only 6-for-9 on his field goal tries this fall, though each of his misses have come from beyond 50 yards. Pineiro spent his 2019 rookie campaign with the Chicago Bears but missed the entire 2020 season due to injury. He signed with the Indianapolis Colts in May 2021 but was waived in August, before joining the New York Jets that December and playing five games.

Pineiro had his longest stretch on one team from 2022 to 2024 with the Carolina Panthers and went 80-for-90 on field goal attempts and 80-for-87 on extra points with the NFC South club. He signed with the 49ers in September 2025 after San Francisco waived former third-round pick Jake Moody. Pineiro had a strong first season with the Niners, making 28 of his 29 field goal attempts for an NFL-best 96.6% success rate.

San Francisco inked Pineiro to a four-year, $17 million contract extension in March.
