San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has never met a running back he didn't want on the team. Famous for getting the most out of running backs taken in the later round of the NFL draft, Shanahan has a penchant for producing a stellar running game. However, the 49ers will have one fewer player at the position after sending a former college star running back to the New Orleans Saints, who were in desperate need of depth at the position.

Saints head coach Kellen Moore previously opined about the team's running back room featuring Audric Estime, Devin Neal, Kendre Miller, Ty Chandler and CJ Donaldson behind the major offseason addition of Travis Etienne Jr.
"This is going to be a hard group to sort out, they're all talented, they all can play on Sundays at a high level, Moore said. For them naturally there will be potentially some more opportunities with these joint practices and these games, which will be great for them." Jones, meanwhile, was selected in the second round by the Atlanta Falcons in 2016, and also spent time with the Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He started 83 games for the Falcons over six seasons and made the Pro Bowl in 2017.
