A'ja Wilson is well known as the leader of the Las Vegas Aces, as she's currently a strong favorite to earn her record fifth WNBA Most Valuable Player Award. Just days before her team begins its first-round playoff series, Wilson led her teammates out to the court for their pregame entrance against the Phoenix Mercury. The eight-time WNBA All-Star ran through a curtain with teammates behind her, but hadn't realized a woman on the other side had moved directly into their path.
A video showed a woman working at the arena, looking from the other side of the curtain, but she didn't seem to realize the players were about to run through the curtain's split opening. Wilson came rushing through and collided with the woman, knocking her down. The three-time WNBA champion immediately stopped in her tracks, and teammates halted behind her.
Wilson checked on the woman's condition, and other Aces players looked on with concern. A video that caught the incident quickly circulated on social media and racked up over 19,000 likes on X, along with 400-plus commenters reacting to the incident.
"What made you think this would work out well. YOU WORK THERE it ain’t some random, you got the headset on!!!" a commenter said, replying to Hoop Central's X video. Another commenter wrote, "...could have injured Aja.
How do you look and still walk out into oncoming traffic" "She almost took Aja out before the playoffs. She's getting reprimanded for sure lol," a commenter suggested. Others commented, "Way to take the charge ball going the other way" and "Illegal screen.., She ain’t get her feet set." Multiple commenters raised concerns about a potential injury from the incident that went viral, which looked like a hard collision.
Wilson recently opted not to play in the FIBA World Cup with Team USA and said she used that time to rest and recover from lingering injuries or issues ahead of the postseason. She's also been mostly healthy throughout her career, playing in most of her team's games each season. She played in 41 regular-season games this season, the most of her career thus far.
