UFC Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski will turn 38 by the time he next enters the octagon on October 24 in Abu Dhabi at UFC 333, where he faces challenger Movsar Evloev. Evloev will be one of the toughest tests of Volkanovski's career, having culminated an impressive 20-0 record, including going 10-0 in the UFC. Regardless, Volk is still considered a slight favorite to win the fight according to the odds makers.
Many have been wondering how long the Australian will keep fighting, after his upcoming fight, and in speaking to Australia's 10 News, the 145 lb champion detailed whether he was considering hanging up the gloves after his next bout. Volk stated that he plans to stay fighting as long as things do not go terribly wrong for him in the cage against Evloev. ""If things go terribly wrong, alright we're done.
If things go very well, like the last one no damage, alright we'll keep it rolling." Volkanovski said. "Taking each fight as it goes. I'm just trying to be real with it.
But I don't have plans on retiring right now." There is no telling exactly what "terribly wrong" means in the context of his next fight, but any of taking substantial damage, suffering a major injury and/or getting finished by Evloev – who has never finished a single fight in the UFC – would all likely count. Volkanovski has been one of the most durable, impressive fighters in the UFC over the past decade, and since losing one time early on in his career in the local promotion, the Australian Fighting League back in 2013, has only seen defeat come at the hands of Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topuria; whom many believe are the top two pound-for-pound fighters in the UFC. Regardless, the unbeaten Evloev will present a fascinating and hopefully non-final test for the future UFC Hall of Famer.
