Bears’ QB Plans Take Unexpected Turn After Case Keenum’s ‘MNF’ Performance

The Chicago Bears reportedly plan to start QB Tyson Bagent in Week 4 despite Case Keenum's strong performance in their Week 3 win.

The Chicago Bears and veteran quarterback Case Keenum shocked everyone on Monday night in their dominant 27-7 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite this, Keenum doesn't appear to be getting the kind of leash that most fans would expect. In his first action as a starting quarterback since 2023, Keenum systematically picked apart a typically strong Eagles defense, throwing for 247 yards and two passing touchdowns while playing turnover free football.

Keenum's performance is essentially all any head coach could ask out of a backup quarterback. But despite this, it doesn't sound like he is likely to get another starting opportunity without more injuries in front of him occurring. Brown Injury Development is Good News for Patriots Fans On Tuesday, ESPN NFL insider Ian Rapoport discussed the state of the Bears quarterback room heading into Week 4, "When Ben Johnson was addressing reporters after the game, one very important thing he said that I want to make note of," said Rapoport.

"He said Tyson Bagent was the backup quarterback coming out of camp for a reason. He didn't specifically name a starting quarterback by the way. "They also haven't ruled out Caleb Williams for this game.

Although, I do not expect him to play based on what we've reported. Tyson Bagent has been the No. 2 quarterback, got paid like the No. 2 quarterback, and is someone who this organization believes strongly in. So Case Keenum, unbelievable, magical performance. 38 years old, turning back the clock.

There is actually a chance this is the only game that he starts and Tyson Bagent comes in next game." Until then, it now sounds like Bagent will be getting the next starting opportunity should he be healthy enough to start after suffering a concussion in Week 2. Notably, Bagent was active on Monday night, but served as the QB2 behind Keenum.

At the very least, Bagent may be on a short leash if he is the starter in Week 4 over Keenum given how well the former Houston Cougars product played on Monday night. The Bears will host the New York Jets in Week 4 where they will look to build on the momentum Keenum helped build in their Week 3 win over the Eagles.
