The noise is only going to grow louder for Maryland to part ways with head coach Mike Locksley after a terrible performance by the Terrapins on Saturday. Maryland was humiliated at home by UCLA. The Bruins outgained the Terrapins 475-181 in total yards in a 54-3 win for UCLA in front of 40,125 fans at SECU Stadium.
Following the loss to UCLA, Locksley told reporters he still has plenty of "confidence" in himself to "fix" Maryland despite the 51-point defeat in its Big Ten opener. Earlier in the week, Taylor Lyons of the Baltimore Sun asked Locksley if he deserved "more chances" to coach Maryland after having numerous press conferences where he claims things with the program will be fixed, yet the results the next week show otherwise.
"I understand why you ask the question, why you say those things," Locksley said. "I understand why the fans are frustrated. They've earned the right for us to play better than we have.
It won't get fixed here at the podium. "It gets fixed across the street with the work we do. We continue to do the work.
We'll continue to do the things we have to do to earn their trust back." Maryland dropped to 2-2 with the loss to UCLA. Locksley is 39-51 during his two stints with Maryland. The Terrapins' last winning season came in 2023.
