Texas Longhorns linebacker Colin Simmons found out that you couldn't simulate urinating on another human being during Saturday's contest against the Tennessee Volunteers. It's safe to say he probably already knew that, but that didn't stop him from doing it in front of 100,000 people at Neyland Stadium. Simmons, following a sack in the first half of his club's eventual victory, simulated the action in the direction of Tennessee quarterback Faizon Brandon.
The Longhorns were (obviously) penalized for the act, which was described by the referee as "simulating using the restroom." Simmons went on to apologize after the game during his postgame press conference and on social media. "All Glory To God Thank you for listening to my prayers and forgive me for my actions. #5piece," Simmons posted to X. "I also do want to say I apologize for the celebration," said Simmons during his media session.
"I was definitely in that mode, feeling myself. But, you know, it happens. Charge it to the game." It's unfortunate that his afternoon will be defined by the celebration, as he also happened to tie the school record with five sacks Saturday.
"We took him out, we addressed it, and put him back in," Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said. "I mean, at that point, I'm not going to give the guy the death penalty, right, over an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. We got to fix it though, right?
That can't continue as we move forward. "And so as I touched on with the team in the locker, and we'll address that on Monday and what that looks like and how to control our emotions. ... The best thing you can do is go celebrate with a teammate." No. 1 Texas will await word on a potential punishment as they prepare for The Red River Rivalry matchup with Oklahoma.
