Stroud is speaking up after he was the subject of some pretty critical remarks from a franchise legend. On Wednesday, Stroud found himself being asked about comments made by former wide receiver Andre Johnson on the "LGND TLK" podcast. That episode, which debuted Tuesday and also featured NBA analyst and former player Kendrick Perkins, included a discussion of Stroud, about whom Johnson had a complaint.
"What I dislike about C.J., I dislike his body language," Johnson said, as detailed by Ajibola Bodunrin of FOX 26 Houston. "His body language is bad. I think as a former player, your quarterback having that type of body language is bad, because other guys look at you as the quarterback.
So when they see you feeling a certain way, it kind of trickles through the team." Coming off of a tough home loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday in which Stroud failed to get his team in the end zone despite moving inside the Buffalo 10-yard line at the end of the game, Stroud has certainly been receiving his share of negative comments. Despite the public criticism, though, the Texans QB seemed unaffected by the comments. "I would say I respect Dre as a person.
I appreciate his critiques, but I’m focused on this week, trying to go 1-0 against the Bengals. I respect Dre, and if that conversation needs to be had, it will be had.” Stroud is most likely right to show Johnson some respect. The very young franchise — starting play in 2002, they're the newest team in the league — still has Johnson atop franchise leaderboards for receptions (1,012), receiving yards (13,597), receiving touchdowns (64) and a variety of other pass-catching categories.
Stroud has some rookie records, but he's still working on his Texans legacy. Given his lack of response to Johnson's words, he's likely aware that the best way to quiet Johnson and other critics is to prove it on the field.
