Last month, cult-pop overlord Carly Rae Jepsen released her absolutely tremendous double album Day And Night. Day And Night is a whole lot of music to process — 24 songs, divided into the Day side and the Night side, adding up to an hour and 25 minutes of bangers. Today, Jepsen releases Day And Night (Continued), a new deluxe edition of an album that was plenty deluxe already.
It's got eight new songs, and none of them sound like throwaways. Jepsen has a proud history of writing way too many great songs for her records; recall that the all-time classic "Cut To The Feeling" didn't make the cut on E•MO•TION or even on the E•MO•TION Side B collection that followed. For Day And Night (Continued), Jepsen has added four new songs apiece to both the Day and the Night halves of her new album, which means she has now extended the record to an hour and 51 minutes.
But what were you going to do with the next hour and 51 minutes of your life, anyway? Watch Forgetting Sarah Marshall? You were going to do some bullshit.
Now, you can still do some bullshit, but with a better soundtrack. (And yes, I did Google movies that are an hour and 51 minutes long.) Given that you're probably still processing the 24 tracks on the original Day And Night, you might need a bit of a guide to know which tracks are new to the deluxe edition. On the new version, Jepsen has added the new songs to the ends of both halves, so it's the four last songs on both parts — "Reaching For A Star," "Sixteen And Rising," "Wedding Season," and "Lullaby" on Day; "Yes," "Muscle Memory," "Love Depressed," and "In Pure Faith" on Night. Day And Night (Continued) is out now on School Boy/Interscope.
