According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid confirmed that Mahomes will officially be Kansas City's Week 1 starter. This is exciting news, as the Chiefs are officially getting their superstar quarterback back.
This comes after the 30-year-old's 2025 season came to an early end after he tore his ACL and LCL on Dec. 14 against the Los Angeles Chargers. With Mahomes ready to go, the Chiefs will now be looking to bounce back from their frustrating 2025 season. If Mahomes stays healthy and is in top form, the Chiefs should be in very good shape this season.
Mahomes appeared in 14 games last season for the Chiefs before getting injured. During them, he threw 22 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and 3,587 yards. He also completed 62.7% of his passes.
It will now be interesting to see what kind of season Mahomes has in 2026 from here. Given how last season went for Kansas City, there is no question that the nine-year NFL veteran is entering this season extra motivated.
