Colts Announce Starting QB Decision After Embarrassing Week 8 Loss

The Indianapolis Colts announced their starting quarterback decision following Sunday's Week 8 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Indianapolis Colts suffered a lopsided Week 8 loss at the hands of the division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, falling with a 42-7 final score on the road. Colts quarterback Daniel Jones put together yet another rough outing, completing 19 of his 28 pass attempts for 144 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Indianapolis, which traded away multiple key players in a fire sale this past week, is clearly in rebuild mode as the team is 2-6 to begin the 2026 season.

With all that in mind, many fans and analysts believe it's time for the Colts to turn to Anthony Richardson as the team's new starting signal caller. However — when speaking to reporters on Monday — Colts head coach Shane Steichen said the team is sticking with Jones moving forward. The Colts selected Richardson with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The franchise gave him just 15 starts before moving on to Jones as QB1. Through the first eight games of the season, Jones has 1,542 passing yards, five passing touchdowns and nine interceptions — trailing only Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert (10 interceptions). The Colts will face off against the Dallas Cowboys in a Week 9 matchup this coming Sunday.
