One day after the Indianapolis Colts fired general manager Chris Ballard, assistant GM Ed Dodds made his first roster additions in his new role. Dodds may be in charge of making quite a bit of changes in the coming weeks. On Tuesday, the Colts signed wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr. and punter Thomas Morstead to the practice squad.
Hardman, who is in his eighth NFL season, was cut by the Buffalo Bills before the 2026 season started. Morstead hasn't played this season after spending last season with the San Francisco 49ers. Indianapolis has dealt with various wide receiver injuries this season, with Alec Pierce and D.J.
Montgomery both sitting on the injured reserve list right now. Pierce signed a massive four-year, $114 million contract in the offseason, but has only played in two games as he's been dealing with a heel injury. Only one wide receiver on the active roster, Keenan Allen, has scored a touchdown this season.
The Colts need a receiver they can rely on to help them put points on the board, which shouldn't be a difficult task in the NFL. But, it's the situation they find themselves in. It's unknown if Hardman will be an answer to this problem, but at least the team is making moves.
Indianapolis punter Rigoberto Sanchez is questionable moving forward after he suffered a foot injury on Sunday. The Colts were searching for a potential replacement punter, hence why they signed Morstead. The Colts needed a reboot of sorts after losing to the Tennessee Titans 26-20 on Sunday.
There's been talk of various players potentially being traded, including veteran players defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, running back Jonathan Taylor and guard Quenton Nelson, per Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer. The Colts could look like a whole new team in the coming weeks. The Colts will look to end their two-game losing streak on Sunday when facing the undefeated Minnesota Vikings.
