The Indianapolis Colts have plenty to worry about on the field. The team is 0-9 dating back to after its bye week last season, $88 million quarterback Daniel Jones is playing like a rookie again, and star $114 million wide receiver Alec Pierce is out for at least the next four games after being placed on injured reserve with a foot injury. But it seems all anyone wants to talk about regarding the Colts is whether or not the presence of owner and CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon on the sidelines during games is a distraction to the team.
Seemingly everyone has an opinion on the matter, which has become arguably the biggest hot-button issue in the NFL right now, despite the fact that Irsay-Gordon has been patrolling the sidelines with a headset on for years. "That's sacred ground: Players, coaches, staff," former Green Bay Packers executive Andrew Brandt said on the "Ross Tucker podcast." "Owners have no business there. Front office has no business there." While many have stated Irsay-Gordon should be in the owner’s suite during games instead of scouring the sidelines during games, Colts tight end Mo Alie-Cox recently revealed that the players don’t share that sentiment.
In fact, Alie-Cox went as far as to call out the media for making such a big deal out of the situation given none of the players have once complained about it. I really think it’s just a learning thing. It doesn’t really bother us, and it’s been going on for years.
It’s not like it’s something that just started. But it’s been going on for a while, so it doesn’t bother any of us, and I don’t know why it bothers people who aren’t in the organization because at the end of the day, it affects us not them.” During an interview with the Colts official website back in June of 2025, Irsay-Gordon disclosed that she likes being on the sidelines because it helps her be a better owner.
