The upcoming season will be critical for a few members of the Washington Commanders. Jayden Daniels, the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, is looking to bounce back this season after battling injuries in 2025. How he plays this fall will be key before he's eligible to negotiate for a new contract at the end of the season.
Head coach Dan Quinn led the Commanders to the NFC championship in 2024, but the team took a step back last year. With two new coordinators, Washington will need to see improvement in his third season. The longest-tenured player on Washington's roster told reporters on Thursday that he informed general manager Adam Peters and Quinn that this year could be his last in the league. Having that the rest of my life, just, a few jerseys hanging up with that (will) be really special for me," Way said, via video posted to X by JP Finlay of NBC Sports. "And this year too is special because I am pretty sure this is going to be my last season.
"Talked with AP and DQ, just kind of giving a heads up. I didn't want to just spring that on them. But, it's just one of those things, taking it all in.

Before the season, Way was named team captain along with Daniels, wide receiver Terry McLaurin, linebacker Frankie Luvu, safety Jeremy Reaves. Way joined the league as an undrafted free agent with the Chicago Bears in 2013. The former Oklahoma Sooners standout signed with Washington in 2014.
