Controversial Analyst Pitches Wild Jets-Justin Herbert Trade Idea

Could the New York Jets offer up their three 2027 first-round picks for Chargers QB Justin Herbert? One NFL analyst thinks so.

The New York Jets may not be competitive right now, but many believe that will change in the coming years thanks to the draft capital the team has stockpiled over the last two seasons. New York traded away franchise cornerstones in cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, acquiring three first-round picks, a second-round pick, and former second-round wide receiver Adonai Mitchell in return. The Jets used some of that draft capital to land three building-block players in edge-rusher David Bailey, tight end Kenyon Sadiq, and wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr., and they have several other young foundational players in running backs Breece Hall, 25, Braelon Allen, 22, wide receiver Garrett Wilson, 26, defensive end Will McDonald, 27, defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat, 25, and cornerback D’Angelo Ponds, 21.

Given the nucleus of players the Jets already have, FS1’s Nick Wright, who’s known for his controversial opinions, recently proposed New York part with the three first-round picks it has in the 2027 draft for already proven star quarterback Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers. If the Chargers were willing to part with Herbert — a very big if — acquiring all three of the Jets’ 2027 first-rounders might be a deal too enticing to pass up. The Chargers could use one of those picks to draft Herbert’s replacement in the QB-rich 2027 draft.

Texas’ Arch Manning, Oregon’s Dante Moore, Miami’s Darian Mensah, Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss, Notre Dame’s C.J. Carr, and Oklahoma State’s Drew Mestemaker could all go in the top 20. They could also use one of those picks to get their new franchise QB a game-breaking WR weapon with Texas’s Cam Coleman, Indiana’s Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh, and Alabama’s Ryan Coleman-Williams all expected to go early in Round 1.

Los Angeles could also potentially land an impact defender with both Texas edge-rusher Colin Simmons and South Carolina edge-rusher Dylan Stewart both expected to go in the top 15 as well.
