Paul Finebaum doesn't see Deion Sanders reviving Colorado again after Saturday's 29-7 loss to Texas Tech. After starting 2-0, the Buffaloes have been outscored 93-27 in three consecutive blowout losses. Sanders led Colorado to nine wins in 2024, but the program has gone 1-10 in Big 12 play since Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter went to the NFL.
Coach Prime watched his offense surrender four interceptions on Saturday, the last of which Red Raiders linebacker John Curry caught inside the end zone for a dagger touchdown. Finebaum doesn't expect Sanders to recover from Colorado's latest rough patch. "When the last image of a program's last breath is your quarterback in his own end zone throwing a pick-six, it's over," Finebaum declared on "The Matt Barrie Show." The ESPN pundit believes it's just a matter of how the Hall of Famer's coaching tenure ends in Boulder.
Finebaum noted that Sanders discourse is no longer dominating his network's airtime as the Buffaloes sink further away from relevancy. "It is going to end either gracefully or spectacularly badly for Deion," Finebaum continued. Everybody does because … I’ve come to really respect and admire him.
Three or four years ago, I mean, we would be starting this conversation about him and ending it about him, as every show on ESPN would be doing the same thing." Instead of transforming Colorado into College Football Playoff contenders, Sanders must find a way to keep his program in the hunt for a bowl game. While Finebaum appreciates Sanders, he doesn't think the enigmatic leader can right the ship. "He's only the most charismatic figure we’ve seen in this game in a long time," Finebaum said.
"But you can't keep going. Even with the beginning of the season that went well for him, nothing has gone right, and you cannot get it back."
