Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson has not made an appearance with the National League Central club since Aug. 16 due to a left oblique strain. Yet, the Cubs have now provided a promising update on Swanson as they continue their series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. While speaking to reporters, including The Athletic's Patrick Mooney, Cubs manager Craig Counsell announced that they are planning to activate Swanson from the injured list for their series against the Cincinnati Reds next weekend.
With the Cubs looking to maintain their wild card spot in the National League, it is certainly good to hear that Swanson is nearing his return. He is an important part of their roster, and he should provide them with a boost once he is officially back in the lineup. The Cubs currently hold the top wild card spot in the National League, but the Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres, and Arizona Diamondbacks are all close to them in the standings.
Due to this, it is undoubtedly great news that Swanson is inching closer to his return. Swanson has appeared in 119 games this season with the Cubs, where he has recorded 18 home runs, 66 RBI, and a .216 batting average. This comes after he posted 24 home runs, 77 RBI, and a .244 batting average in 159 games last season with Chicago.
