While speaking to reporters, including The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced that Freeman is dealing with right knee discomfort. Due to this, the Dodgers star will not be in the lineup for Los Angeles against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday.
"The last few days, his right knee has been bothering him," Roberts said about Freeman. "On the heels of an off day tomorrow, I talked to him. We felt it was best to give him a day." Roberts also shared that they are currently not considering putting Freeman on the injured list.
Although an injured list placement seems unlikely for Freeman right now, it is still concerning that he is dealing with knee discomfort at this point in the season. The playoffs are right around the corner for the Dodgers, so they need an incredibly important player like Freeman to be healthy once they begin. This is especially so when noting that superstar Shohei Ohtani has also been dealing with injury trouble on the Dodgers.
With this news, Freeman is going to be a player to keep an eye on down the stretch. The Dodgers will be hoping that the rest will help with his knee pain. In 140 games this season with the Dodgers, Freeman has recorded 16 home runs, 66 RBI, and a .297 batting average.
