Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Justin Wrobleski is already making progress in the injury he sustained earlier in the month, and is facing hitters ahead of the Dodgers' game against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday. Wrobleski, 26, struggled after making his first All-Star Game in July, allowing 20 runs over his four most recent starts. The Dodgers chalked up Wrobleski's struggles to a forearm injury, and placed him on the injured list on Aug. 16.
The left-hander may have fallen off against the following the All-Star break, but definitely warranted his spot in the Midsummer Classic prior to mid July. He made 15 appearances for the Dodgers prior to his injury, posting a 2.69 ERA and had the most wins on the team with 10. He had also only allowed eight home runs on the season.
In his five appearances since, though, Wrobleski's ERA ballooned to 3.56, and he more than doubled his home run count on the season — now at 19. Wrobleski's progression in his injury is good news for the Dodgers, though, as he will — without a doubt — find a way to contribute in a stacked pitching staff. While Wrobleski had a place in the Dodgers' rotation for the majority of the year, his time as a starter in 2026 may be up.
The Dodgers just got All-Star Tyler Glasnow back from the injured list, and he isn't the only player blocking Wrobleski. Cy Young winner Blake Snell also returned from the injured list recently, and Shohei Ohtani could make his comeback as soon as Sunday, according to Dave Roberts. Additionally, Yoshinobu Yamamoto obviously warrants a spot in the rotation, Tarik Skubal won't be going anywhere and Roki Sasaki's recent dominance makes him impossible to bench.
Those six will likely make up the Dodgers' rotation for the remainder of the year, but Wrobleski could play a big role as a high-leverage swingman out of the bullpen. The left-hander played a similar role in the 2025 postseason, and threw five scoreless innings for the Dodgers during their World Series title charge. If he can rediscover his early-season form and bring those results into his return, he will still be a key pitcher for the team.
