The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly calling up right-hander Emmet Sheehan from Triple-A ahead of their game against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, according to Jack Harris of the California Post. Sheehan has been a regular starting pitcher in the Dodgers' rotation for the past three seasons. He made a career-high 20 starts for Los Angeles this season before the Dodgers sent him down to Triple-A for a "reset" at the beginning of the month.
In his last seven MLB starts, Sheehan had a 1-4 record while accruing a 6.39 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 31 innings. In Sheehan's last start before heading to Triple-A, he gave up five runs and three home runs in 2.2 innings against the Boston Red Sox. "Everyone knows what we think of him," manager Dave Roberts said at the beginning of August.
"I mean, the talent is there. The care, the preparedness, all that stuff is there. But it's just, when you're pitching in big league games, you've got to get guys out.
I don't know where we go from here. We all pull for him, but you've got to perform." In Triple-A, Sheehan posted a 2.84 ERA and struck out eight batters in 6.1 innings across two starts. The Athletic's Katie Woo reported that Sheehan will be used out of the bullpen when he returns on Tuesday.
"With a good amount of scheduled team off days coming up, Sheehan will be used to give a taxed bullpen extra length," Woo wrote on social media.
