We've covered the two deepest already, first base and catcher, so every other position will seem like a letdown by comparison. Second base is likely among the worst, though. (I say "likely" because I'm learning as I go here.) It's always been lacking in early-round mainstays, and some of the players who have come closest to fitting that description in recent years are beginning to show their age. Jazz Chisholm and Ketel Marte both disappointed in 2026 while Ozzie Albies and Jose Altuve continued their downward spiral into irrelevance.
Mercifully, the position got a big boost with the Padres' decision to shift Fernando Tatis there for much of May and sporadically thereafter. He'll retain his eligibility at second base for 2027, but others who you may have come to rely on there -- such as Sal Stewart, Otto Lopez, Luis Garcia, Ceddanne Rafael and Brooks Lee -- will not. Notably, second base could get a significant reshuffle in 2027 with Chisholm, Brandon Lowe, Luis Arraez and Gleyber Torres all set to enter free agency.
I doubt my feelings will change about Chisholm, Lowe and Arraez regardless of where they land, but underlying their initial ranking is that element of the unknown. Note that the focus here is standard 5x5 scoring (such as Rotisserie leagues), but scroll a little further, and you'll see my rankings for points leagues as well. 1. Jazz Chisholm, free agent 5.
Brandon Lowe, free agent 6. Luis Arraez, free agent 10.
