Eli Manning will have a conflict of interest when his nephew plays against his alma mater later this month. Arch Manning's Texas Longhorns will host the Ole Miss Rebels in a huge SEC showdown on Oct. 24. Will the former New York Giants quarterback cheer for his family or former school in a game with potentially significant College Football Playoff ramifications?
It didn't sound like an overly difficult choice for Eli Manning when asked to pick a side on the Pardon My Take podcast. "You root for your family," Eli said. "I have, basically, maybe two years to root for my nephew in college.
For those two years -- or maybe it's the last year -- whatever happens, I'm gonna root for my nephew to win every single game that he plays in, and that's just the way it is." However, he won't maintain any loyalty toward the Longhorns after Arch leaves. "After that, Texas, I won't care about them that much," Eli said. I root for Ole Miss to win every other game, probably besides -- a little bit -- that one." The two-time Super Bowl champion explained why he can't go against Arch under any circumstances.
Ole Miss supporters will hopefully understand if Eli pulls for the Longhorns, and NFL fans may need to remember these comments if Arch plays against the Giants. "This is a kid I've known since he was born," Eli said. "I've played football with him.
I've done drills with him. I've taught him the game of football. He's family, and so you root for family in these scenarios.
It's bigger than your college. It's bigger than where you went. It is your blood, so I'm going to support him 100% on his football journey for the rest of his life."
