The Atlanta Falcons will take the field for their final preseason matchup against the Miami Dolphins on Friday night. As it stands right now, Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa are listed as co-starters on the Dolphins' depth chart as they continue their preseason quarterback battle. Tagovailoa was unable to separate himself as the team's clear starting QB this offseason, despite Penix working his way back from an ACL injury he suffered last year.
On Wednesday, the Falcons said Tagovailoa will get the start against his former team at Hard Rock Stadium. Cooper Rush and Jack Strand will come in off the bench, and Penix will not take the field at all. Tagovailoa played sparingly in the Falcons' preseason opener against the Denver Broncos, completing three of his five pass attempts for 22 yards.
The former Dolphins signal caller did not play in Atlanta's second preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts. The Falcons will open up their regular-season schedule with a Week 1 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 13.
