The Atlanta Falcons got some bad injury news on Michael Penix Jr. before their Week 1 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

As the Atlanta Falcons prepare for their Week 1 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, they have now gotten more bad injury news regarding quarterback Michael Penix Jr. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski shared that Penix will be inactive for Week 1 against the Steelers and is not ready to return to action. With Penix being sidelined for Week 1, Stefanski confirmed that Tua Tagovailoa will be Atlanta's starting quarterback for Week 1.

In addition, the Falcons head coach also shared that Cooper Rush will be Atlanta's backup for the game. Penix has been working on his recovery after suffering a partially torn ACL back in November of last season. Now, with this latest update from Stefanski, it is clear that the two-year NFL veteran quarterback still has more recovering to do before he can return to game action.

Penix was limited to only nine games last season with the Falcons due to injury. During them, he threw nine touchdowns, three interceptions, and 1,982 yards. He also completed 60.1% of his passes before suffering his season-ending injury.

Now, with Penix out for Week 1, the Falcons will be hoping that Tagovailoa can help lead them to a victory over the Steelers.
