Caitlin Clark finally received her signature shoe with Nike earlier this month, but the popularity of her new sneakers has left some fans frustrated over their limited availability. She and Nike unveiled a new Halloween edition of the Nike Caitlin 1 called the "Jinx," due to Clark being "terrified" of a neighbor's cat named Jinx when she was growing up. Nike indicated in a Nick Offerman-narrated teaser, which debuted Oct. 30, that now that Caitlin's an adult, she "overcame her fear of Jinx by turning him into a pair of signature sneakers." The shoes feature a black, ghost green, and mint foam colorway, with green cat eyes noticeable on the backside of the tongue.
The video teaser also reveals that, once the lights are off, the Jinx soles and lower trim glow in the dark, which seems quite appropriate for their Halloween unveiling. However, fans hoping to get their hands on the Jinx sneakers were left frustrated by the limited release and difficulty purchasing a pair. "I would love to thank Nike for hiding this release and blocking true fans and collectors from getting them. If you weren’t one of the very few lucky ones, you can buy them for over $300 on eBay today," a frustrated commenter replied. Another commented, "I love ya Caitlin, but this shoe launch for the Jinx is absolute BS.
So frustrating." "Not really funny man some of us change out work schedules for the drops. Guess no one gets them unless they are snkrs elite. 🤷🏾♀️. Super disappointed in this drop," someone wrote.
Others said, "Shouldn't be that hard to get a pair of shoes," and "Dropping this way and making them so limited was a bad way to go!" The first editions of the Nike Caitlin 1 arrived on Oct. 1 with the Caitlin Blue and Warning Code colorways. The shoes retailed for $140 for adult sizes at the Nike website and select basketball retailers. Since then, the Midnight Fever colorway was released on Oct. 14, and the Jinx (Halloween Edition) was released exclusively through Nike SNKRS Exclusive Access on Oct. 30, for $150.
There are at least three more colorways on the way for avid fans. A Cave Stone edition is scheduled for Nov. 3, followed by the Ice Cold on Dec. 1 and Purple Venom on Dec. 12. Unfortunately for Clark's biggest fans and supporters, getting their hands on these limited-edition sneakers could mean paying significantly higher prices on resale sites like eBay.
