Jon Sumrall is 2-0 to open up his head coaching career with the Florida Gators, notching season-opening wins over Florida Atlantic and Campbell over the last two weekends. This coming Saturday, the Gators will face their toughest test of the year thus far against the conference-rival Auburn Tigers. Sumrall grew up in Huntsville, Alabama and his wife, Ginny, is a graduate of Auburn University.
The Sumrall's have many extended family members with ties to the Tigers. When asked if any of his family members will be rooting against him on Saturday night, Sumrall gave a blunt response. "If I do, they're not family to me," Sumrall said.
But Florida pays my mortgage. Any family that is pulling against us, they ain't my family. I don’t care what their last name is.
"I've got a lot of respect for Auburn. Good people," Sumrall added. "But I'm a Florida Gator.
Anyone affiliated with me closely is a Florida Gator, or they're not affiliated with me closely." Saturday's Florida-Auburn clash will kick off at 7 p.m.
