If they decide to remove Norvell, the guy who proofread the “Fire Novell” banner may learn how to spell his name correctly.

Following an embarrassing 34-26 loss to the Clemson Tigers on Saturday, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell is in the hot seat. A place that isn’t uncharted territory for him. There was even a moment during the loss where an airplane flew above the stadium with a banner that read “Fire Norvell (with a blatant spelling error) and Peter Collins” which drew heavy criticism, even from Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney.

Now, it’s been reported by On3 that Florida State University leadership is currently meeting over Norvell’s future with the school. While expectations have been high with the coaching staff, the frustration with Norvell has come to a head. With Saturday’s loss, Florida State’s program dropped to 10-22 since the 2023 campaign where Norvell promised the world following the Seminoles undefeated regular season before losing in the Orange Bowl, Bleacher Report said.

With the fanbase already on edge, president Richard McCullough wrote an open letter to the Seminoles prior to the Clemson game: “I know some of you are questioning whether university leadership understands the seriousness of this moment, whether meaningful action is taking place behind the scenes, and whether there is a clear plan for the future,” McCullough said. And we are methodically working on a plan that positions Florida State for sustained success,” he continued. He closed the letter with “We are not asking you to lower your expectations.

We are telling you that we share and embrace them.”
