Giants' Cam Skattebo Gets Honest About Return After Season-Ending Injury

Cam Skattebo got honest about how last year's season-ending injury affects him now that he's back on the field for the Giants.

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo is ready to return from injury after his promising rookie season was cut short in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles. That October 2025 injury was initially a dislocated right ankle along with an open tibia fracture, fractured fibula, and a ruptured deltoid ligament, bringing his debut campaign to an unfortunate halt. Months removed from when he suffered the injury, Skattebo is back to practicing and playing some preseason football with the team.

On Monday, the 24-year-old said that he's not really thinking about the previous injury on a "day-to-day basis." "If it's not bothering me, my mind is clear of it. When I went out there on Saturday, I had no feeling or any recollection of injury in my brain. I was ready to go play football, and you know, adrenaline gets going, so everything kind of goes away," Skattebo told reporters at a Giants media session.

In the Giants' loss to the Vikings, Skattebo had four carries for 19 yards. His rookie season featured him tallying 410 yards and five touchdowns as a running back.

In a receiving role, he racked up 21 receptions for 207 yards and four touchdowns, making him quite a weapon for the offense. During the offseason, he raised concerns over some of his activities away from the field, including falling after attempting a backflip at Fanatics Fest 2026 in New York City. He also participated in a scripted televised altercation with some WWE superstars back in November, but neither appeared to cause a setback.

The Giants will have him back healthy, as well as their young star receiver, Malik Nabers, who also suffered a season-ending injury last year. Nabers suffered a torn ACL and a torn meniscus in his right knee in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Along with Skattebo's return for Week 1, there's optimism that Nabers could also suit up for the team's first game of the season.

Last week, Connor Hughes reported that Nabers participated in non-contact team drills, an encouraging sign for his return. The New York Giants will have two more preseason games on the way. On Saturday, Aug. 22, they visit the Miami Dolphins.
