The New York Giants are in a world of hurt on Monday after learning pass-rusher Brian Burns will be lost for the season after suffering a torn ACL in Sunday's 12-7 win over the Tennessee Titans in wet and rainy conditions at MetLife Stadium in Week 3. Heading into Week 4, New York will be without its best defensive player in Burns. In Week 2, the Giants lost their most important offensive player, quarterback Jaxson Dart, for at least the remainder of the regular season after he suffered a knee injury that required surgery.
During his news conference on Monday, Giants head coach John Harbaugh admitted he and the team are dealing with shock after losing two of their best players for the rest of the season before the month of October. The Giants will have to fight through the shock to find ways to win. "But you’ve got to overcome the shock, and you’ve got to overcome and find a way to play the next game and win the game. I feel bad for Brian, more than anything. My heart breaks for him.” Burns has been one of the best pass-rushers in the league since the Giants traded for him in 2024.
He recorded the second-most sacks in the league last year with 16.5 sacks. Harbaugh noted that he was a leader for the defense in addition to being a threat to sack the opposing quarterback. "You feel it more for the player than for the team.” The Giants addressed Dart's injury by trading with the Minnesota Vikings for J.J.
Finding a replacement for Burns won't be an easy fix. For more on the Giants and the NFL, head to Newsweek Sports.
