The New York Giants think they have something in quarterback Jaxson Dart. Brian Daboll, the club’s former head coach, was supposed to be the guy to develop the former first-round pick – previously having success doing so with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterbacks Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa – but they fired him midway through last season. John Harbaugh, his replacement, found success drafting and developing Joe Flacco and Lamar Jackson during his two-decade long stint with the Baltimore Ravens, but the responsibility won’t necessarily fall on his shoulders this time around.
It’s all on the new offensive coordinator: Matt Nagy. Age: 482022-2025: Kansas City Chiefs (Offensive Coordinator)2019-2021: Chicago Bears (Head Coach)2016-2017: Kansas City Chiefs (Offensive Coordinator) Nagy’s history developing quarterbacks is something of a mixed bag, as he had a hand in progressing Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes but was also primarily responsible for the failure that was the development of former Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. The Giants have put quite a few veteran pieces around Dart, bringing aboard veteran running back Najee Harris, veteran wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Calvin Austin III, and veteran tight end Isaiah Likely.
It’s not about the horses, though, it’s about putting those horses in the right position. If Nagy can do that, this will be a successful partnership that could lead to his second head coaching opportunity. If he can’t, he might just be headed back to Kansas City.
