Hundreds of flights were delayed, canceled or diverted Monday after equipment failed at a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic control facility, according to multiple reports and flight tracking websites. FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said airspace in the northeast was closed for 30 minutes as crews attempted to replace parts of the failed equipment, according to a report from CBS News. The outage affected communications at Philadelphia TRACON, according to the report, prompting ground stops at Newark Liberty International Airport, Philadelphia International Airport and Teterboro Airport before delays spread to New York's John F.
Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport. Newsweek reached out to the FAA by email Monday for more information. According to FlightAware.com, 124 flights were cancelled out of Philadelphia International while another 395 flights were delayed.
