Chicago Bears running back Kyle Monangai began the week with a questionable designation as he deals with a turf toe injury. But on Friday, the 24-year-old ball carrier was officially ruled out for Sunday's Week 5 matchup against the Green Bay Packers. Monangai's injury is worse than the team originally thought, according to a report from team insider Courtney Cronin of ESPN.
"His toe injury is a bigger concern than the team initially realized. Monangai saw a specialist and is currently in a boot," Cronin reported on Friday. Monangai is considered "week-to-week" with his injury, but he's not considered as a candidate to be placed on injured reserve.
"We'll see how long that injury sidelines him," head coach Ben Johnson told reporters. Monangai had a huge day this past Sunday, rushing for 146 yards and two touchdowns on a whopping 30 carries in a 23-12 win over the New York Jets. He ranks No. 8 in NFL rushing yards so far this season with 324, ahead of Bears starting running back D'Andre Swift (311).
The Bears will kick off against the division-rival Packers at 1 p.m.
